Let’s drive into some car commercials today. First up, the Chrysler New Yorker and some nice views of late 70s Manhattan. Second, the Plymouth Champ featuring a boxing theme and boxing MC Jimmy Lennon Sr.. Both spots aired in November of 1978.

Here we have two commercials for Libby’s. Start with a spot from September 1974 featuring a gaggle of kids singing the brand’s famous jingle. After that, take in a spot from November ’78 for Chunky Mixed Fruits.

Most folks will likely find this TV Guide “Bicentennial” commercial the more interesting of the two spots today. And it is a nice little time capsule. However, I’m even more drawn to the silliness of Laverne & Shirley‘s Phil Foster showing off his dyed hair and mugging for the camera. Both spots aired in June of 1975.
