70s Spots: Revlon Mascara & Penn Tennis Balls (1979)

‘Let it rain!’

“Beautiful!”

Nothing in common, other than the year 1979, with our two commercials today. To start, a spot from August ’79 for Revlon Super-Rich Mascara. If anyone can identify the actor-model please let me know.

After that, an October ’79 spot for Penn tennis balls. Play on!

“It’s the fabulous New Yorker!”

Let’s drive into some car commercials today. First up, the Chrysler New Yorker and some nice views of late 70s Manhattan. Second, the Plymouth Champ featuring a boxing theme and boxing MC Jimmy Lennon Sr.. Both spots aired in November of 1978.

“Some kids go…when they Sit ‘n’ Spin!”

Another pair of awesome toy commercials from 1977 today. First, Kenner invites you to Sit ‘n’ Spin. Dizziness is so much fun isn’t it kids?

Second, we’re having Colorforms fun with the Holly Hobbie Magic-Glow Doll House.

The Libby’s Gang causing trouble in the park

“Libby’s, Libby’s, Libby’s on the label, label, label!”

Here we have two commercials for Libby’s. Start with a spot from September 1974 featuring a gaggle of kids singing the brand’s famous jingle. After that, take in a spot from November ’78 for Chunky Mixed Fruits.

70s Spots: TV Guide ‘Bicentennial Issue’ & Youthair Dye (Phil Foster, 1975)

‘Phil Foster with Youthair!’

“What have you got to lose? Just the gray in your hair!”

Most folks will likely find this TV Guide “Bicentennial” commercial the more interesting of the two spots today. And it is a nice little time capsule. However, I’m even more drawn to the silliness of Laverne & Shirley‘s Phil Foster showing off his dyed hair and mugging for the camera. Both spots aired in June of 1975.
