Contains tomatoes, sweet onions, bell peppers and a “special blend” of spices. Hunt’s Manwich Sandwich Sauce ad with actor-singer Johnny Brown (Good Times) originally appeared in the June, 1978 issue of Ebony magazine.

Spirit’s “Nature’s Way” originally appeared on the Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus LP in late 1970. The song, written by band leader Randy California, was issued as a single in early 1971, reaching a peak of #111 on the US Hot 100. Music For Monday: The Flaming Ember, ‘Westbound #9’ (1970)

The Flaming Ember called Detroit, Michigan home and had four Top 100 hits between late 1969 and late 1970. “Westbound #9” was the group’s highest-charter, peaking at #24 on the Hot 100 in August of 1970.

“Westbound #9” is a recent discovery for me. Technically, I may have heard it on the radio when I was three-years-old, but I couldn’t confirm that. Give it a spin and see if you enjoy this slice of soul-tinged pop.
