70s Commercials: Quaker Oatmeal, Talkabout Toy, Cracker Barrel, Zest (1970-71)

I have an early seventies commercial line-up for you today. We’ll start off with a fairy tale-like spot for Quaker Oatmeal and then catch ads for the Romper Room Talkabout toy, Cracker Barrel cheeses, and Zest. Are these time capsules really over 50-years-old now? They are – and so am I. Inconceivable!

ZEST ‘CLEANER THAN SOAP’ COMMERCIAL (EARLY 1970s)

Deodorant Zest commercial featuring two flight attendants at home. Spot aired in the early 1970s.

Music For Monday: Slade, ‘Get Down And Get With It’ (1971)

Slade’s “Get Down And Get With It” was released in 1971 as a non-LP single and it grabbed #16 in the UK charts, #4 in Holland, and #1 in Denmark. A live version of this “stomp your feet” anthem later appeared on 1972’s Slade Alive! and the studio version landed on the 1973 hits compilation Sladest.

Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s clap our hands, bash our boots, and sing-a-long!

Here’s actor-comedian Redd Foxx, best known for starring in Sanford and Son and releasing hundreds of raunchy “party” albums, for Colt 45 Malt Liquor. The ad appeared in Ebony magazine in August of 1974, a mere 47 years ago.

To assist you in the creation of a most wonderful weekend, Bionic Disco joyfully presents Sesame Street‘s Ernie singing his signature tune, “Rubber Duckie.”

This particular clip is the second appearance of the song on Sesame Street and occurred during season two in 1970. Did you know that “Rubber Duckie”(written by Jeff Moss) was a top 20 tune on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart in September, 1970? Fact!
