Oh, there’s going to be trouble! (Child Driver PSA, early 1970s)
“She left the keys in the car and the engine running!”
Time to fire up our Daily 70s Spot and leave the motor idling. Here’s a Public Service Announcement warning against leaving your keys in the car with a curious child inside. Spot aired in the early 1970s. (My best guess would be ’71-’73).
Happy Tuesday. Apologies for the delayed posting. Having family in town for the holidays has caused slow downs here. Let’s get right back into the vintage commercials Christmas Season action.
Here’s Cybill Shepherd for Revlon’s Intimate fragrance, decorating ideas from Reynolds Wrap (An aluminum foil door wreath? Wow!), Pillsbury flour cookie recipes, and JCPenney.

“Marx makes games that everyone can have fun playing.”
Marx Games, makers of Magic Shot, TV Tennis, and Skee Whee. Daily 70s Ad #354: Marx Games, ‘Magic Shot’ originally appeared in the December, 1974 issue of Ebony magazine.
“The ‘hunter’ holds his QWAK rifle – attached to the game with a steel cable – and fires at the duck flying ‘overhead’ on the screen…
Another sure winner from Atari, the originators of video game technology.”
Here’s one from the “Wow, that’s an old game!” file. Atari’s QWAK! arcade cabinet launched in November of 1974 and the above ad appeared in Cash Box magazine in the December 7, 1974 issue.
According to Wikipedia (quoting video game legend Ralph Baer), QWAK! was not a great success and only sold around 250 units. Nintendo’s more well known game, Duck Hunt, was almost certainly based on this one.
Seasons Greetings! The next few batches of seventies commercials will be Christmas-flavored. I wish I had some Hanukkah spots to throw in as well, but I just haven’t come across any yet in the years I’ve been collecting these.
We’ll start off with a long, luxurious commercial from Kraft featuring lots of holiday desserts. Following that, you’ll find Geritol, Max Factor compacts & lockets (with Jaclyn Smith), and Dutch Masters Christmas Collection.
