Music For Monday: Peggy Lee, ‘Something’ (1970)

Ready for Peggy Lee‘s different, but enjoyable version of The Beatles’ “Something“? Yes, I thought you were game.

In case you need a little background or refresher, Peggy Lee is probably best-known today for the songs “Is That All There Is?,” “Fever,” and “Big Spender.” She also voiced characters in Disney’s Lady and the Tramp. “Something” was written by George Harrison and was the first song of his deemed worthy of an A-side Beatles single release. “Something,” along with “Come Together,” grabbed the #1 slot on the US Hot 100 in November of 1969.

Here’s Peggy Lee performing “Something” on The Ed Sullivan Show on March 1st, 1970. Dig those psychedelic Peter Max-style backgrounds!

Happy New Year from all the gang!

If it’s the Seventies and you’re in front of the TV on New Year’s Eve – then you’re tuning in Dick Clark. No two ways about it. This short New Year’s Rockin’ Eve clip aired over 40 years ago on December 30, 1977. Looks like Suzanne Somers (Three’s Company) and Robert Hegyes (Welcome Back, Kotter) were joining in the festivities.

Super 70s Ads: New Year’s Eve With Wayland & Madame And Tavares (1979)

Wow, I’m really sorry I missed this event ushering in the 80s. Unfortunately, I was only 13 and living on the opposite coast. But, how’s this for a New Year’s Eve celebration at New York City’s Sheraton Centre? Wayland and Madame, Tavares, and disco dancing with famed disco DJs until 3 AM. Oh, yeah!

The above ad appeared in the December 31, 1979 issue of New York magazine.
