“Put on some clothes, get out of bed.”

I could use a shot of David Bowie right about now. Here’s the man performing “Oh! You Pretty Things” on the UK’s Old Grey Whistle Test in 1972.

Oh! You Pretty Things” (written by Bowie) appeared on the Hunky Dory L.P. of December, 1971. It’s a magical Mood Music moment!

“A muscle machine with a will of its own.”

Look at that beauty. Ready to roar off into the painted horizon. And what’s up with the “Midnight Express” tag? Simply a reference to night trains I suppose. The well known book and movie didn’t arrive until ’77 and ’78 respectively.

The Cars’ debut single, “Just What I Needed,” released in May of 1978, a month before their self-titled L.P. hit record shops. The tune was penned by Ric Ocasek and sung by the band’s bassist, Benjamin Orr.

“Just What I Needed” climbed into the top 20 in the UK and the top 30 in the US. Below, you’ll find a clip of the band performing this pop masterpiece live in ’78 on The Midnight Special. Crank it.
