“Welcome to man’s most magnificent achievement in the conquest of space…”

Filmation’s Space Academy originally aired on CBS beginning in September of 1977. 15, 30-minute episodes were produced.

This short-lived sci fi series starred Jonathan Harris (Lost in Space) as Commander Isaac Gampu, the 300-year-old head of the academy in question. Grampu taught a collection of students from across the universe, portrayed by actors; Pamelyn Ferdin, Ric Carrott, Ty Henderson, Maggie Cooper, Brian Tochi and Eric Greene. Many strange beings were encountered (robot war machines, alien children made of energy, etc.) and valuable lessons were learned.

Jason of Star Command was a spin-off of Space Academy (and you can learn more about that here).

Look as good at 300-years-old you will not.

I’m so pleased to have used the term “blind nose test” in the above paragraph. Can I get a mental high five? Thanks.

The Exorcist levitated into theaters in late December of 1973 and was #1 at the box office for six weeks; from Jan 06 – February 10, 1974 (40-yrs-ago this week).

This horror classic, based on a 1971 novel by William Peter Blatty, was directed by William Friedkin and stars Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, Lee J. Cobb, Jason Miller and Max von Sydow.

Yes, Ellen, we're horrified by the wig too.

Decades later, The Exorcist still tops many polls as “the scariest film of all-time.” Peek in a timid manner at the trailer below and enjoy a frightening anniversary. Update: As an added bonus, you can watch a short video with 1970s theater line-ups and audience comments. It’s a nice document of the hysteria.
