“Thoughts of yesterday run through your mind. Gently playing with passing time.”

I think this male model did an fine job on his very first photo shoot. We all have to start somewhere. Daily 70s Ad #12: The Hotel ‘Clothing Finery’ appeared in the October, 1978 issue of Orange Coast magazine.

Slice-of-life time. Here’s a brief home movie from “taratupa73” filmed at a car wash fundraiser on a hot summer’s day in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The film is simply two minutes of some folks at a Gulf station washing a 1970 Mercury Cougar XR-7 but it brings back memories of the era. I thought you might enjoy it, as I did. Do note that during the entire length of this movie not a single teenager took a selfie or sent a text. Is this a good or bad thing? I don’t know, but times-they-shore-has-changed.

Trailer Tuesday: ‘All That Jazz’ (1979)

‘All That Jazz’ trailer title, 1979.

All That Jazz chasséd into theaters in late December of 1979. This semi-autobiographical musical fantasy, directed by Bob Fosse and written by Fosse and Robert Alan Aurthur, follows a film and theater director and choreographer named Joe Gideon.

Gideon, played by Roy Scheider, is attempting to direct a Broadway play while also editing a film for Hollywood (see Fosse’s work on Chicago and Lenny for real life references). Stressed, over-stimulated and constantly overworked, Gideon feels his end approaching and begins having visions of an angel of death (played by Jessica Lange).

Here’s a brief trailer from late ’79 that I’m guessing was the teaser trailer before a second, full trailer was rolled out. It provides a good taste of this intense, epic film. Roll it.

Music For Monday: Herb Alpert, ‘Rise’ (1979)

Herb Alpert and his disco aura “Rise” to the occasion, 1979.

Herb Alpert released the smooth-grooving instrumental, “Rise” in the summer of 1979. On July 28 it debuted on the Billboard US “Hot 100.” After a slow climb and some promotion on TV’s General Hospital, “Rise” rose to #1 – spending two weeks at the top in October ’79.

Here we find Alpert miming to the song (written by Andy Armer and Randy Badazz) on a TV show with what appears to be some sort of disco harem. Turn the lights low and get groovy. If you’re not familiar with the song by name, you’ll have an “Oh, yeah” moment once the trumpet kicks in.
