I’ve recently been contacted by a few folks promoting 1970s-related news. I’ll present the stories for you below and you can hit the links to explore further.

Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution Exhibition

First Up, Pamela Thomas of the Museum Of UnCut Funk let me know that a very cool exhibit entitled: Funky Turns 40: Black Character Revolution Exhibition is currently on display in NYC.

The exhibit “commemorates the 40th anniversaries of 1970’s Saturday morning cartoons that featured positive Black characters for the first time in television history” and presents “60 pieces of Animation Art” such as original production cels and drawings. You can view the exhibit through June 14, 2014 at the Schomburg Center For Research In Black Culture in New York. After that, the show moves to the DuSable Museum Of African American History running July 13-October 20, 2014.

Wheel In The Sky: Where Motorcycle Legends Are Made Infographic

Next up, Fix.com let me know they have created an infographic entitled: ‘Wheel In The Sky: Where Motorcycle Legends Are Made’ displaying “the greatest stunt jumps in history.” And, yes, 70s-fans, Evel Knievel makes an appearance. You can spy a snapshot below or devour it in full.

Music For Monday: Minnie Riperton, ‘Lovin’ You’ (1975)

"Lovin' you, is easy 'cause you're beautiful..." (Minnie Riperton, 1975)

“Lovin’ you, is easy ’cause you’re beautiful…” (Minnie Riperton, 1975)

Minnie Riperton’s “Lovin’ You,” from the L.P., Perfect Angel, was released as a single in January of 1975. By April it was #1 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart. This soulful tune with the incredible, high-pitched vocals was written by Riperton and Richard Rudolph and produced by Stevie Wonder and Rudolph. You can view what seems to be the official 1975 video below.

Sadly, Minnie Riperton died on July 12, 1979 at the age of 31.
