We’re well overdue for a Trailer Tuesday here at the ‘Disco – so, let’s jump right back into 1970s film history.
Blazing Saddles is celebrating a 40th anniversary and a release on Blu-Ray today. Since we’ve already commemorated Blazing Saddles, instead we’ll take a look at Mel Brooks’Silent Movie.
Silent Movie, as you might guess, features almost no dialogue. The film, released in June of 1976, stars Mel Brooks (who also co-wrote and directed), Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuise. Brooks plays a movie director looking to create the first completely silent motion picture in decades. Much slapstick comedy ensues as Brooks, Feldman and DeLuise attempt to convince major stars such as; Burt Reynolds, Paul Newman and Liza Minnelli to join the cast.
As a follow-up to the wonderful comedies Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, Silent Movie is something of a letdown. Nevertheless, I certainly enjoyed it as a young whippersnapper. Roll the trailer!

Talking Heads originally wrote “Psycho Killer” around 1974 and eventually recorded a version for their debut L.P., Talking Heads: 77. David Byrne and the band are well known for the tune, but the song barely scratched the top 100 upon its original release as a single in December, 1977.
