With feathered hair and flares flapping in the wind we continue our 1978 weekend. Today, it’s all about Toyota.

First, we peek into the future with the new Celica that’s ready to fly off into the 1980s like some kind of Delorean. Following that, a spot for a California Toyota dealership’s “Truck-A-Thon” sale. That’s a lot of 70s pickups! Both commercials aired in January of 1978.

A grand Saturday to everyone! Time to dust off some vintage 70s commercials. This weekend our theme is 1978.

First up, you’ll enjoy a Ken-L-Ration talking puppies dog food spot from September of ’78. After that, a commercial for Vitalis hairspray featuring a non-aerosol bottle known as “The Pump.” Yes, we were somewhat environmentally conscious way back when. Keep your eyes-peeled for actor Patrick Wayne riding a horse in this one. Air Date: January, 1978.

Here’s a little blast from childhood’s past for Funshine Friday. An animated Charlie the Tuna Sun-Kist commercial.

Charlie the Tuna is voiced by Herschel Bernardi and the announcer is Danny Dark. I couldn’t get enough of these Star-Kist spots when I was a wee lad. These and Jolly Green Giant commercials. Mini cartoons to help us get through the boring breaks between shows.

Celebrities and beer, the two go together like…pretzels and mustard! Hell, I don’t know if the analogy works, but I think you’ll enjoy the following celeb commercials.

First, you’ll find Ted Danson laughing it up for Colt 45 Malt Liquor beer from January, 1978. Second, I’m pretty sure that’s Danny Glover appearing briefly in a spot for Miller High Life from February of 1979. Drink deeply.
