“When you have a cold, get Halls Mentho Lyptus with Vapor Action!”

Hall & Vicks, wasn’t that a 70s band? Maybe not, but if you’re feeling a bit under the weather you may find extra interest in today’s pair of commercials.

First up, we have a spot for Halls Mentho Lyptus ‘Vapor Action’ from November of 1973. After that, one for Vicks Formula 44 from January, 1974.

I’m not sure how we managed to go so long without posting an Olivia Newton-John song, but it’s time to sort that out.

Here’s Newton-John performing her first big US hit, “Let Me Be There” on the UK’s Sez Les show in 1973. The song (written by John Rostill) hit #6 on the Billboard “Hot 100.” Elvis Presley also liked performing his version of the song in the 70s.

“Don’t say beer, say bull!”

Sunday is here and it’s time to cuddle up to another pair of vintage 1970s commercials. Here’s two spots for Schlitz beer that ran in January of 1979 (produced in ’78).

First, you’ll find a disdainful Roman Emperor in a crashing bull ad. Following that, a more traditional spot featuring a neighborhood football game. “Bull!”

“Start planning to join us in The Old Country…”

Well, hello! I hope you’ve had your coffee this morning as we’re already moving onto a taste of beer. Here’s two spots from Anheuser-Busch Brewing.

The first one is fairly fascinating as the Busch Gardens amusement park, The Old Country, is being previewed while still under construction in Virginia. After that a talking Clydesdale spot for Budweiser. Both commercials were produced in 1974 and aired in early January, 1975.
