Daily 70s Spot #385: Aqua Velva ‘Herbal & Musk’ (1975)

“There’s something about an Aqua Velva man.”

Here’s a spot featuring two women (or, the same woman playing two roles?) singing about the virtues of Aqua Velva and fragrant-smelling men. It’s difficult to tell if this is for after shave or cologne, but we do know that Herbal is “free-spirited” and Musk is “provocative.” Thank goodness for that.

The spot aired in November of 1975.

“Free automatic transmission.”

Let’s finish off “1971 Week” with two Dodge spots from July of that year. In pole position, one for the Dodge Dart Swinger. After that, a commercial for Dodge Charger with a free vinyl roof giveaway. The spokesperson in these ads has a real Reuben Kincaid vibe going on. I love it.

“Wake up on the Rice side.”

Well, good morning! Here’s two Kellogg’s spots from July of 1971 to get your day off to a nutritious start.

First up, Snap, Crackle and Pop for Rice Krispies. There’s an interesting choice of shots in this one with a fellow poking himself in the eye with shaving cream, followed by a screaming baby. After that, a commercial for Special K. You’ll recognize the main actor in this one, but I can’t place his name. Your help is appreciated.

Today, we have a 30-second animated spot for Independent Insurance Agents that aired in January of 1971. This pleasant little cartoon would have to have been produced in 1970 (or earlier). B’wana.
