“Remember – Ryder rents trucks.”

All right, friends. This week, we’ll do a 1973 thing. To get us started, here’s motorcycle daredevil, Bob Gill leaping over a healthy number of Ryder trucks. The jump is real and you will take notice that Gill does not use a landing ramp. Gill’s stunt career ended the following year after a jump left him paralyzed.

The spot below was filmed in May ’73 and aired in November ’73.

In second position, a quick :15 second ad for Gregory Peck and Laurence Olivier in The Boys From Brazil. The commercial aired in October of 1978.

First, one for Ford Mustang II starring James Hampton and John Fiedler. After that, a spot for Goodyear with a “Good News” song and a cameo from the Goodyear blimp.

“Elegant features like…deep shag carpeting.”

It’s 1974 and we’re taking a look at something new from Chrysler Plymouth. And here it is – the Valiant Brougham. This impressive vehicle has crushed velour seats and shag carpeting. Very, very “fauncy.” The spot aired in July of 1974.

Onto 1973! Here we have a fun commercial for The Equitable insurance company with a parade of bowlers showing off their individual styles. The spot aired in October of 1973 (and I suspect by the clothes and hairstyles, produced a year or two earlier).

Today, it’s 1972 and we have a spot for Colt 45 Malt Liquor on-tap. In this November ’72 commercial, Canadian comedian, Billy Van braves a hockey game.

This is the third Billy Van Colt 45 spot I’ve laid on you fine folks. You can find links to the other two (from 1970) near the bottom of the page.
