“The best surprise – is no surprise.”

I hope everyone in the US and Canada is enjoying a relaxing, extended Labor day weekend. The following Holiday Inn commercial may help calm your nerves during your time off.

The spot aired in November of 1975 and the actor playing the “Surprise!” hotel clerk appears to be James “Big Fig Newton” Harder.

Here’s a somewhat silly spot for Levi’s Action Slacks featuring the world’s most uncomfortable man. The commercial aired in November of 1979.

“Peek Freans are a very serious cookie.”

Peek Freans? I had never heard of such a thing before coming across this commercial. I don’t think we had access to these treats growing up in California in the Seventies.

The spot below aired in February of 1979 and is kind of fun and also a little bit strange. What with the funky name and miniature children and all. Have a look.

Here’s another one of those judgemental Downy fabric softener “April Fresh” commercials from 1977. This one aired in June of ’77.
