70s Spots: Sheraton Hotels (1973)

147 new and luxurious suites!

“What has Sheraton done for you lately?”

Here’s a state-of-the-art, December 1973 spot for Sheraton hotels. The commercial features a fancy schmany helicopter and an 800 number. What is this, the 80s?!

Nice flares, Gatsby!

“Colorful casual wear from the colorful shirt company.”

In this Arrow shirts commercial we go all the way back to the 1920s for some fashionable history. The spot aired in December of 1973.

If given a choice, I’d take 20s fashion over the 70s. Sorry, Seventies!

Insert funny joke about the guy being ‘very handy’ here.

“You deserve a break today.”

Here’s a colorful, slightly funny McDonald’s commercial featuring something called “The Big Meal.” A precursor to the Happy Meal in some ways, though not directed at the little ‘uns. The spot aired in November of 1971.

‘Who were those guys?!’

“Where fun is the name of the game.”

Welcome to 2017! Now, let’s get rolling, back into the vintage fun. There’s no time to waste!

My favorite commercials tend to be the ones for toys and candy. The things I was obsessed with as a kid. Beyond that, anything with a healthy dose of humor suits just fine.

Here’s a good one for Skittle Tennis starring Get Smart‘s Don Adams. The spot aired in November of 1971.

On behalf of myself and Bionic Disco, here’s wishing you a joyous and wonderful new year!

Let’s celebrate with belting out the “Have A Happy New Year” song from Rankin/Bass’ 1976 Animagic holiday special, Rudolph’s Shiny New Year. The tune is sung primarily by Red Skelton. Music & lyrics by Johnny Marks. Arranged & conducted by Maury Laws.
