70s Spots: Ford Pinto Runabout & Country Squire Wagon (1971)

Two Pintos trot onto a field…

“Pinto – the little carefree car from Ford.”

Two spots from Ford for this Sunday. First up, a sweet little pony prances about for the Ford Pinto 3-Door Runabout.

After that, a commercial featuring some stop-motion animation for the Country Squire wagon. Both spots aired in August of 1971.

“Fire yours and hire ours.”

Happy Friday the 13th! Never fear, to help keep you dry today, I have two spots for Right Guard deodorant. Under the right arm, we have a commercial from August 1971 starring a young Tom Selleck. Under the left arm, another spot in the same ad campaign.

I recognize the faces and voices of the other actors, but can’t put a name to them. Feel free to help identify these folks in the comments.

Wilderness Family portrait.

“The best motion picture you will see this year.”

Well, it’s all subjective, I guess. On the projector today, we have two lesser-remembered movies and their TV promos. First, The Adventures of the Wilderness Family.

After that, a story of Marilyn Monroe’s early years in Goodbye Norma Jean. Both TV trailers aired in January of 1976.

The logo with ‘a lot to give.’

“You’ve got a lot to live – and Pepsi’s got a lot to give!”

Two drinkable commercials today from December of 1970. The first course contains a bottle of Pepsi. The second course features an early splash of Gatorade. Peek hard and you’ll see the “Stokley – Van Camp” logo (the product’s first producer) on the Gatorade bottle.

The source volume on these is a bit low, so you may want to boost your sound a bit.

“Nutritious foods cats really like.”

Here’s world-renowned feline, Morris the Cat, for 9-Lives cat food. This classic 70s mascot is voiced by actor, John Irwin.

After the 9-Lives spot, we have the introduction of Purina’s human food, Bran Chex. Both commercials aired in May of 1977.
