Today’s theme is “Underthings of 1978.” With that in mind, let’s enjoy a classic commercial for Fruit of the Loom briefs from August of ’78. You’ll recognize the fruit mascots and the “Granny” who stars in the spot. If anyone has a name for the “Emma” actor, she often appeared on TV throughout the decade, please let me know.

After the “brief” spot, take in a commercial from January ’78 for Playtex’s Support Can Be Beautiful bra. The product that wolf whistles!

Eating and drinking in the late 70s is our tenuous theme today. First, enjoy a classic Hebrew National hot dogs spot featuring “Uncle Sam” that ran for a good few years.

After that, take in an Ovaltine Hot Cocoa Mix commercial that will remind you of A Christmas Story (although this predates the film by a good few years.) Both spots aired in January of 1979 but were produced in 1978 or earlier.

Let’s go with a drinking theme today. First, a commercial for Italian Swiss Colony Chianti featuring a posse of boozing friends on the beach. The spot aired in September of 1970. Wine and cheesy!

After that, a heart to heart with a concerned father and Champale Malt Liquor. Hey, I’d worry too if my son was on the Champale day and night. The spot aired in August of 1971.

Two entertaining spots from the entertainment industry for our Friday. First, George Burns narrates a November 1977 promo for his hit film, “Oh, God!”.

Second, a May 1977 ABC promo for the Tony Awards. Marquees for The Wiz, Beatlemania, and Annie are just a few that can be spotted along Broadway.

Chevy takes over the ‘Disco today with two commercials for the upcoming 1975 models. First, we have the latest Chevy Nova in a spot from November of 1974.

After that, we uncover the new Chevy Monza 2+2 in a “futuristic” spot that aired on the last day of ’74.

In the early 1970s, one of the world’s greatest actors signed on to star in a series of US-only commercials for the Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera. Here now, are two of those spots featuring the esteemed Laurence Olivier.

The first spot aired in October of 1973. The second aired in November of 1974.
