March 22, 1977: A Tuesday to Remember (40th Anniversary Repeat)

Airport '77 released in March of 1977

(*Note: I’m re-running this post from 2012 today as it’s now a 40th anniversary look-back.)

In honor of my wife’s birthday, March 22nd, let’s grab a year out of the 1970s and see what occurred on this fine day. 1977 – I choose you!

Bruce Springsteen played the Boston Music Hall in Massachusetts; songs included “Backstreets”, “Tenth Avenue Freeze-out” and “Born to Run”.

“Rich Girl” by Hall and Oates took over from “Evergreen (Love Theme from A Star is Born)” by Barbra Streisand as the #1 song on the Billboard pop charts.

Movies released in March and currently in the theaters included Airport ’77, Wizards, Islands in the Stream, and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh.

In NBA basketball: The Chicago Bulls beat the Los Angeles Lakers 102 to 86.

Indira Gandhi resigned as Prime Minister of India.

Stoney Cooper, country music star and Grand Ole Opry member passed away.

US President Carter met with Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda in Washington.
