70s Spots: Chuck Wagon Dog Food (1974)

Drumstick daydream

“Dogs go for the flavor of chicken!”

Two classic spots today for Chuck Wagon dog food from February of 1974.

I used to love these commercials when I was a much smaller human being. That animated wagon that could never be caught really sticks in the ol’ memory banks. I used to wish it would show up in my kitchen. I’d catch that damn thing! Heyah! Yah!

When bears attack

“Tough & Light.”

Happy April Fool’s! I don’t have any leg-pulling jokes for you – but I do have a pair of refreshing spots that you can drink down.

First, a commercial for Mountain Dew featuring a very mild bear attack. After that, a spot for Luzianne Tea starring Burl Ives. Both commercials aired in August of 1979.

The equine majesty of Bud

“Champion Clydesdale – symbolic of the King of Beers.”

A pair of Budweiser commercials today, focused on the “proud tradition” of “Champion” Clydesdale horses. The spots aired in January of 1976 (probably produced in ’75). I’m fairly certain that’s Ed McMahon providing narration for both. Have a splendid Friday!

OW: Original Wrapper.

“The Best Wrap Around.”

Two spots for the household today. First, a commercial for Reynolds Wrap starring Marilyn Saunders. After that, one for Behold furniture polish. Both spots aired in January of 1978 (and were likely produced in ’77).

Sunoco’s Man of La Mancha

“Let us quest for the World’s Highest Octane Gasoline!”

If you like your gasoline commercials animated, you’ll love today’s pair. First, we find Don Quixote and Sancho Panza searching out a Sunoco station.

Next, a singing “Rocker Arm Assembly” sells Mobil gasoline. I’d be willing to bet you haven’t seen finer car toons in ages. These two aired in August of 1971.

Music For Monday: David Ruffin, ‘Walk Away From Love’ (1975)

The Temptation is strong

Music for Monday time! Let’s fly over to Cherry Stereo and place our eyes and ears firmly against the finest seventies songs.

Sweet sound sensation! It’s ex-Temptations singer, David Ruffin performing “Walk Away From Love” on Soul Train in 1975. You’ve got to love Ruffin’s scratchy, soulful voice. Have a look & listen!
