70s Spots: Tina Louise For Arrid & Dallas Cheerleaders For Fabergé (1978)

If Bob Denver fell backwards through the wall of this set and ruined the shot – it would qualify as the greatest moment in advertising history.

“I told two friends…and so on. And so on…”

Greetings, Bionic friends. Here’s Tina Louise (aka Ginger Grant on Gilligan’s Island) for Arrid Extra Dry. The commercial aired in January 1978 (produced in ’77).

After that, the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders do their thing for Fabergé Organics shampoo & conditioner. The spot aired in November of ’78. And so on, and so on, and so on…

Rickles brings the chuckles

“Right Guard protects people – from me!”

As you have likely heard, caustic but lovable comedian Don Rickles passed away Thursday at the age of 90. As a small tribute to the man, here’s two commercials from the fall of 1974 featuring Rickles during his time as advertising spokesperson for Right Guard.

You can view a third Rickles Right Guard spot (posted last year) if you’d like more, you hockey puck, you.

Singing cans!

“Be an old smoothie!”

Two shaving cream spots steaming up the bathroom mirror today. First, an October 1971 commercial for Gillette Foamy featuring singing cans. The actor is one we’ve seen before, for example, in this spot for Holiday Inn, and this one for New York Life. If someone can identify him – please let me know.

After Gillette, we have a Mr. Clean type shaving his head for Rapid Shave. The spot aired in November ’71.
