DePatie-Freleng’s Doctor Dolittle animated series ran for a single season, debuting in September of 1970. 17, 30-minute episodes were produced.
This rare cartoon was loosely-based on Hugh Lofting’s 1920s novels (as well as the 1967 movie musical) about a doctor who can talk to animals. In addition to the titular Doctor Dolittle (Bob Holt), DePatie-Freleng’s version featured a young sailor named Tommy Stubbins (Hal Smith), a dastardly pirate, Sam Scurvy (Lennie Weinrib) and a rock group made up of singing grasshoppers.
Below you’ll find the show’s intro and exit sequences. A quick search of YouTube will bring up complete episodes if you are intrigued. Have a happy Funshine Friday!
