With friends like these… The Friends of Eddie Coyle, 1973
The Friends of Eddie Coyle, based on a book by George V. Higgins, hit theaters in June of 1973. This Boston-based crime saga was directed by Peter Yates and stars Robert Mitchum as Eddie “Fingers” Coyle and Peter Boyle as Dillon.
The film was well-reviewed at the time of its release and is regarded today as a 70s classic. Catch the trailer below.

The Friends of Eddie Coyle review at Every 70s Movie
Another great, gritty 70s crime film in the same vein as “The French Connection” and “The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3.” These 70s crime films, in just the way they were shot, made the criminals truly repulsive and the crimes more horrific.
This one needs wider attention today. Happy to help in my tiny way. 😉
Here is a tribute project I produced in 2010 paying homage to this great film and novel that it was adapted from. Enjoy!
Cool stuff. Thanks, JP.
Thanks. We shot two recreated scenes, a trailer and a behind the scenes photo montage. I EVEN GOT AN INTERVIEW WITH ALEX ROCCO FOR THE DVD! Mr. Rocco played Jimmy Scalise in the original film. I didn’t post that online yet…want to get his permission but it is part of the DVD release along with other special features.
